I'm probably jinxing us by posting this, but, as of yesterday, Elvis will be going to my school! If I'd been paying attention, I'd have known Monday but sometimes I'm a little slow. The special ed teacher walked down the hall with me Monday and said, "I hear Elvis is coming to our school." I replied that I hoped so but hadn't heard from the woman I'd called about that yet. Yesterday, that same special ed teacher just showed up in my classroom with the notice to set up his IEP meeting. Evidently, instead of calling me, the boss lady just called the special ed teacher. (I have no idea how that conversation went down because I hadn't even left his name on the voicemail. However, they had his special ed file at the school yesterday AND it was done before we changed his name. Someone there must have remembered me/him.) Anyway, he will go Wednesday for OT and PT evals and we'll have his IEP next Friday. I don't know what class he'll be in yet. He'll either be in the full-time special ed room or the special ed pre-k class. That will be decided at the meeting. Either way, he'll be at my school and that makes me so happy. I know it's hard to send any child off to school but sending a non-verbal child is really, really scary. Absolutely anything could happen to him/be done to him and I'd have no way of knowing.
Of course, I'd already bought him some clothes for the new dress code and I'd purchased shirts in the colors required by the school we are zoned for. I'll happily drop that purple polo off at our local school to be passed on to a child in need. Our boy will be wearing burgundy, yellow, light blue, and red with me this school year. I'm so happy!

Congratulations to Elvis for becoming a "insert mascot name here".
